Dialogue for Change
"Dialogue for Change: Skill-Building for Humanizing Conversations" is a program offered by the Office of the Vice Provost for Institutional Inclusive Excellence in collaboration with The Fletcher School. Throughout this 8-week program, graduate students will grapple with texts, participate in activities, and engage in dialogue. The group will gain interpersonal skills in communicating and collaborating across differences, and critical inquiry skills to analyze contemporary issues. Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible to receive the level 3 badge ‘Dialogic Skills for Transformative Change.’
Over the course of this program participants will:
- Learn about dialogue as a distinct form of communication and develop dialogue skills to be used across many personal and professional contexts.
- Learn about different perspectives and frames based on how we navigate the world.
- Explore how our relationships may be impacted by structural systems.
- Critically analyze contemporary issues related to conflict.
- Learn to work productively across differences by utilizing the skills of critical thinking, generous listening, cultural humility, and self-awareness to build toward transformative change.
Program outcomes include:
- Improved interactions, attitudes, and behaviors across different perspectives.
- Development of meaningful relationships across differences.
- Increased self-reflexivity about systems and how this impacts interpersonal relationships.
- Greater understanding and awareness of historical narratives and their impact on current events.
- Greater engagement in hands-on efforts to drive community-based change.
