Tufts’ history of working to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and accessibility (DEIJA) reflects the enduring spirit of those who dared to dream of a harmonious world, weaving a tapestry of peace and light (Pax et Lux, Tufts’ motto). Tufts University is a dynamic and complex academic community made up of a diversity of experiences, perspectives, and identities whose mission to further civic engagement and social impact calls on all of us to make a more inclusive campus community. We lean into Tufts’ mission and motto as we take action together to ELEVATE inclusive excellence.

Launched by the Office of the Vice Provost for Institutional Inclusive Excellence (IIE), ELEVATE is a university-wide campaign dedicated to mobilizing transformative and sustainable change towards advancing institutional inclusive excellence. This initiative builds on our ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, justice and accessibility (DEIJA) and celebrates the progress we've made while envisioning a future full of potential for our communities.

ELEVATE is a multi-year campaign which aims to make significant coordinated institutional progress around shared goals of institutional inclusive excellence. Throughout the fall semester, we will be working in collaboration with our steering committee and core team to offer opportunities for the entire Tufts community to share feedback and perspectives that will help in crafting shared goals for Tufts as an institution. In the spring, we will work directly and hands on with schools and central units to help align and integrate their efforts into that vision.

ELEVATE is more than just an initiative—it's an opportunity to create a shared vision of inclusive excellence. We aspire to recognize every individual as a valued contributor, forge new partnerships, leverage our collective strengths, and cultivate a culture of joy and belonging. Through this campaign, we will celebrate the collective spirit that propels us towards a brighter, more inclusive future while recognizing our unique context at Tufts.

What This Campaign Represents:

  • A Shared Commitment: Advancing institutional inclusive excellence by centering diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and access (DEIJA) within all facets of university life; maximizing the impact of our efforts by creating alignment and integration; and fostering opportunities for partnership and collaboration.
  • A Unified Vision: Defining as community shared goals that we work toward collectively at the university level and ensuring we are all moving forward in the same direction - thus making our goals more realistic and achievable.
  • A Call to Action: Embracing challenges as opportunities for growth, uniting across differences, and taking steps to enhance our processes and practices in a way that supports our vision forward.
